What is there to do?
Kielder Water is perfect for sailing, canoeing, kayaking and motor cruising delivered by fully qualified instructors. On dry land, indoor and outdoor climbing, abseiling, high ropes course, ZipCoaster, archery and laser clay pigeon shooting are just some of the onsite challenges. Relax in the hydrotherapy pool or sensory room after your busy day and join friends, family and carers for a drink in the lounge before a delicious evening meal in the dining room.
The centre is located in the stunning Kielder Water & Forest Park, home to the largest man-made lake in Europe, the largest working forest in England and the Northumberland International Dark Skies Park. Don’t miss a visit to the Kielder Observatory. Follow the Lakeside Way on foot or bicycle and view art installations such as Freya’s Cabin, Robin’s Hut and Silvas Capitalis, the Forest Head. Look out for badgers, roe deer, otters, shrews, bats, woodland birds and, especially in spring, birds of prey including ospreys.

Family holidays aren’t always as relaxing as they could be when one of your children has special needs. The younger of my two sons has Angelman Syndrome. Calvert Kielder was perfect for us; we could all relax because we didn’t have to worry about access or activities or people giving him funny looks, as he clapped with excitement at each new experience.
I finally had a holiday I’d only ever dreamed of, one full of fun where I wasn’t a burden and one where I got to push myself by trying new things and finding a way to push past my disability. Just to illustrate my new found confidence I joined a rock choir and performed a solo in front of an audience and even more scary, I found myself googling tandem parachute jumps!
Self-catering accommodation is available all year. Centre breaks from late January to mid-December.
